Macallan 1928-1983 - 50 Year Old - Anniversary Malt

LOT ID: 286

End Date : Apr 05 2017 07:00 PM

LOT DESCRIPTION

1 bottle Macallan 1928 - 1983. Over 50 Years Old. Anniversary Malt. Imported by Berman Imports, Los Angeles. No box. With letter of authenticity. One of only 500 bottles. 750ml. 77 proof. Level low neck. Ageing to label.  The Macallan 50 Year Old Anniversary Malt is widely regarded as one the most significant bottlings in the history of Scottish malt whisky, from the perspectives of production, bottling and marketing. At the time of it's release in 1983 it was not only one of the first malt whiskies to be bottled at such a great age but the first official Macallan bottling at such an age and the first official release to be targeted at such a premium level with appropriate description and packaging.  The whisky itself is composed of three casks distilled between 1926 and 1928, making the whisky in fact 55 years old at least. Note also the naturally low cask strength of 38.6% (77 proof), one of very few bottlings ever to be released beneath standard filling strength of 40%. Over the years this whisky has acquired a reputation as one of the greatest ever bottled, however there are so few people who have tasted it that it remains one of the most sought after bottlings in the world today.  This appearance at Whisky Online Auctions marks the second time this bottling has come up for sale in an online auction such as ours and the first time it has appeared on the secondary market since.

DISCLAIMER

Although a condition report is normally included in the Lot description, this is not comprehensive and is based on a brief overview. Most items will be described as good or fair, this does not mean it will not exhibit wear or tear. We do recommend viewing/close inspection prior to placing any bids. If this is not an option and you have questions beyond the offered description and images, please use the form below "Ask A Question" to make specific enquiries or to receive a more in-depth condition report. Otherwise, Lots will be sold as seen.
Please note: due to the various ages of bottles, corks and their seals, condition of liquid is at the buyer's discretion. And no claim can be lodged against failure/leakage in any circumstance. All bottles are checked for authenticity by our whisky specialists Wayne & Harrison Ormerod prior to any auction. We do not auction opened bottles so therefore all items are sealed unless stated under certain circumstances where seals were never issued by the producer.
No item is deemed new and may exhibit wear or tear, however many items are generally in good condition. If an item has notable faults, we will make every effort to mention these in the description. The images supplied are of the actual item you will receive. If the filling level of the liquid is not visible in the images provided, we aim to indicate the current position in the description. If the filling level is impossible to determine, such as with ceramics decanters, we will provide an overall weight of the decanter in KG. Our filling level guideline can be on this page.
All information in this listing is provided to the best of our knowledge including when we chose to provide a condition report or date the age of a bottle. If you are unhappy with the listing or believe there is an error/discrepancy, you should not place a bid and notify us immediately and we will address the Lot accordingly. Placing a bid confirms you have checked the Lot and are satisfied.
