Sourced, crafted, toasted and seasoned under the watchful eye of The Macallan Master of Wood, the hand-picked casks are delivered to the demanding specifications of the Whisky Mastery Team. 

The Master of Wood carefully chooses only the finest European oak from the vast green forests of northern Spain and American oak, which can be found in the lush forests of Ohio, Missouri and Kentucky. 

Once harvested, the American and European oaks are laid to dry naturally before they begin their journey to the south of Spain for further air drying before being crafted into casks and toasted over an open air fire in the cooperages of Jerez, Spain. Filled with the finest sherry wine, the casks are left to season for up to two years, before being emptied and shipped to The Macallan Distillery, Speyside, Scotland. 

Once filled with The Macallan's 'new make' spirit, the casks lie undisturbed for over thirty years. It is the oak that gives the whisky its natural colour and makes the greatest contribution to the quality, distinctive aromas and flavours of this single malt, a result born of two continents and one incredible journey.
