Antiquary 12 Year Old
Antiquary 12 Year Old. 70cl. 40%.
The Antiquary is an historic blended Scotch whisky brand created in 1888 by brothers J&W Hardie, who had inherited their father’s Edinburgh wine & spirit business and diversified into whisky blending a few years earlier. The Hardie brothers sold The Antiquary in 1917 to J&G Stewart, who were promptly acquired by Diageo forerunner Distillers Company Limited (DCL). The Antiquary was subsequently returned to J&W Hardie after DCL bought the latter in 1948.
The Antiquary’s instantly recognisable ‘gemstone’ bottle was introduced around the 1950s and by the 1980s the blend had a global following. J&W Hardie was purchased in 1996 by the Japanese company Takara Shuzo’s subsidiary Tomatin Distillery Co. Ltd, under whose stewardship The Antiquary has continued to thrive, with a 35-year-old Antiquary released in 2015.
