Bowmore 1961 - 50 Year Old
Bowmore 1961. 50 Year Old. One of only 200 bottles. 70cl. 40.7%.
This 50-year-old is one of the oldest official Bowmore ever bottled; distilled back in the glory years of the 1960s this whisky spent half a century maturing in the No.1 Vaults at the distillery.
It comprises of two ex-bourbon casks which together yielded 200 bottles at 40.7%, a whisker over the required strength to be called whisky.
Islay distilleries aren't best known for maturing their whiskies as long as this, and in fact, many of the best examples to come from the island are much younger whiskies aged at around 10-years-old. However, out of all the islay distilleries, I would say Bowmore is one of the few that copes extremely well at this age.
And let's not forget, Bowmore's fierce reputation stems from these incredible whiskies distilled in the 1960s. So, disregard the fancy packaging, i'd say you're definitely investing in top-notch liquid with this one....
