Clynelish 1976-2002 - 26 Year Old - SMWS 26.25

Clynelish 1976 - 2002. 26 Year Old. Bottled by The Scotch Malt Whisky Society. Society cask number 26.25. One of only 130 bottles. 70cl. 60.4%.

From the archives. ''A European oak cask has given it the colour of old, well=polished mahogany, but the nos is surprisingly vivacious for its 25 years. After a while the scents of a carpenters' shop emerge: fresh wood shavings, wood glue, teak oil. Tasting at this stage is not advised: it is hot and fiery, with white pepper and chillis.

Water unfolds the true character of the whisky: wax polish, candlewax, scented smoke - think of a high church just after mass has concluded - with a ligh medical note, like a footbath in a swimming pool.

The flavour is the very opposite of what it was unreduced: mouth-cooling, with some toffee in front and a light char behind. The finish is salty, long and tannic. Fit for a Cardinal!'' Original price £61 in 2002.
