Dunvilles VR Old Irish Whisky - Circa 1940
Dunville's VR. Old Irish Whisky. Bottled late 1930s, 1940s. No size stated although equal to full size. No strength stated.
A very interesting bottle of Irish whisky (note the lack of an E) from the original Dunville’s distillery in Belfast, which closed in 1936. The company’s famous VR brand was first introduced in 1837; this bottle was probably the final iteration of the original VR whisky, a potstill-heavy blend, and is likely from the mid to late 1930s or early 1940s. After a hiatus of decades the Dunville’s brand was revived by Echlinville distillery in Kircubbin, Co. Down in 2012.
