Glen Garioch 1968-1998 - 29 Year Old - SMWS 19.18

1 bottle Glen Garioch 1968 - 1998. 29 Year Old. Scotch Malt Whisky Society 19.18. One of only 176 bottles. No box. 70cl. 54.5%. Level in neck. Good condition. From the Archives. ''An explosion of spice with bitter coffee. The distillery, near Old Meldrum in 'the granary of Aberdeenshire; founded as early as 1785, retains its own floor malting and is very traditional. Its product is not common, and a special bottling from 1987 is now highly sought by collectors. This offering from the heady sixties is splendid. Deep amber in colour; creamy and hot on the nose, with orange-boxes and heather flowers and a whiff of coffee grounds. With water it becomes more complex, with pepper and cloves joining the orange note. It is worth tasting straight, when a medicinal note is apparent and a flavour of burnt heather stalks. Then add water and it opens big and sweet, then an explosion of spice followed by a bitter coffee finish. Remarkably sprightly for its age.'' The original price in 1998 was just £70.
