Glenfarclas-Glenlivet 12 Year Old - 1960s - For Taplows
A beautiful and very obscure bottle of Glenfarclas 12 year old bottled in the early 1960s by Taplows Distillers & Vinters. The label reads... 'Fine Old Glenfarclas-Glenlivet Highland Malt Whisky. Distilled at Glenfarclas Distillery. Pure Unblended. Aged in Oak Wood for not less than twelve years and with the permission of the Distillery bottled straight and unblended by Taplows.
The statement that the distillery has given permission to bottle this whisky is very interesting. Glenfarclas, being a family-run distillery, have allowed very few to put their name on their products. They have been so stringent this even started the phenomenon of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society Codes we all know and love today.
It is on good authority these were given to friends & customers of Taplows and were never for sale to the general public. I bet most of these have been consumed now and this is probably why this is the first time we're ever seen this bottle available on the market. This particular bottle has been consigned by the original recipients' granddaughter. Her Grandfather was the editor for Harpers Wine and Spirit Gazette.
