Suntory’s Hibiki brand is the pre-eminent Japanese blended whisky. Hibiki was introduced in 1989 and is made with Suntory’s Yamazaki and Hakushu malt whiskies, with grain whisky from the company’s Chita distillery. Hibiki was a great success in Japan, and Suntory gained significant mainstream exposure in the West with the 2003 film Lost in Translation, starring Bill Murray as an ageing Hollywood actor visiting Tokyo to film a Hibiki ad.

Hibiki was introduced to Europe around the same time, and has won continual acclaim at international competitions. Hibiki’s greatest triumphs include back to back Best Blended Whisky medals at the World Whisky Awards in 2007 and 2008 for Hibiki 30-year-old, but Hibiki’s other age-statement blends are currently on hiatus due to the ongoing Japanese whisky shortage.
