Martell XO Cognac

Martell Extra Old Cognac. 70cl. 40%.

Bottling Year: 2019

Category: Cognac

Country: France

Bottle Size: 70cl / 700ml

ABV: 40%

Originally from Jersey in the Channel Islands, Jean Martell founded the cognac house bearing his name in 1715. After initial struggles, including a bankruptcy, the company flourished and was soon exporting hundreds of thousands of litres of cognac to the UK every year.

Jean Martell married twice, both times into the families of other cognac traders who helped run the company after his death in 1753. Further marriages in 1795 and 1865 between the Martell and Hennessy families created an alliance that lasted until 1947, with strategic decisions taken together. Martell became part of the Seagram empire in the late 1980s before being purchased by Pernod Ricard in 2001. The company’s iconic Martell Cordon Bleu cognac celebrated its centenary in 2012.
