Teachers Highland Cream - 1950s

Teacher's Highland Cream. Bottled 1950s. Stopper cork with branded foil capsule. No capacity stated although likely 26 2/3 Fl Ozs. 70 Proof.

A fantastic old bottle of Teacher’s Highland Cream blended Scotch whisky released in the 1950s with the classic gold-tinged label and beautiful tall-lettered font of the day. Teacher’s is a historic blend first created in the mid-19th century and this 1950s edition would have been composed around a generous helping of malt whisky from the company’s Ardmore distillery, which was built by the family of the original William Teacher to supply their blend in 1898 and remains at the heart of Teacher’s today.

Bottling Year: 1950s

Category: Blended Whisky

Country: Scotland

Bottle Size: NA

ABV: 70 Proof

William Teacher was a 19th century Glasgow grocer who began selling whisky in the 1830s and opened a chain of successful ‘dram shops’ in the 1850s. Teacher created various blends for his customers and began selling bulk whiskies wholesale, but the Teacher’s whisky we know today was the Highland Cream blend, which was eventually registered in 1884, eight years after William Teacher’s death.

Teacher’s descendants continued to grow the business, building the Ardmore distillery in 1898 and purchasing Glendronach in 1960. In 1976 Wm. Teacher’s passed out of family hands when the company was bought by Allied Breweries. When Allied was broken up in 2005, Jim Beam bought Ardmore and Teacher’s while Glendronach was sold to Pernod Ricard. Jim Beam was bought by Suntory in 2014, with Teacher’s transferred to the new Beam Suntory company.
