Jack Daniels 1954 Gold Medal - 6th Release

Jack Daniel's 1954 Gold Medal. Sixth Release. Special Limited Edition. 750ml. 43%.

The sixth bottle in the Gold Medal Series to honor the 1954 Brussels, Belgium Star of Excellence.

The medal is as unique as the story behind it. Reagor Motlow first received the letter about the whiskey judging contest in Brussels, Belgium. He handed it to his right hand man, Herb Fanning, and told him to take care of it. Mr. Herb walked right out to the production line and pulled off the first three bottles and sent them on their way.

When the folks in the advertising department found out, they were a bit upset, and asked Herb why he hadn't sent whiskey that was specially selected for the competition, to which Mr. Herb exclaimed: "Why all Jack Daniel's is special!" Mr. Herb said later he figured he might have been fired over that, but about that time another letter came announcing that Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey had won the Star of Excellence!

Apparently that second letter set things right between Mr. Herb and the advertising department, as Mr. Herb spent many more years at the distillery before he retired. He became one of Lynchburg's best known and much loved citizens and he even appeared in quite a few Jack Daniel's ads!
